#PROJECTTBR READ-A-THON WRAP UP

Hello there!
The project TBR read-a-thon ended last night, and I wanted to tell you about everything I read during the week. I had a really fun time and I got loads more reading done than I normally would, so I'd just like to thank benjaminoftomes for organizing it.

I read 7 BOOKS during the read-a-thon, and I managed to complete all of the challenges that Ben created. Go me! You can see my TBR HERE, where I explain more about the read-a-thon and tell you about all the books I was originally planning to read.

REVIEW: SEED - LISA HEATHFIELD

*THIS BOOK WAS PROVIDED TO ME BY THE PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY, THANKYOU! THIS DOESN'T AFFECT MY OPINION IN ANY WAY*

TITLE:  Seed

SYNOPSIS
All that Pearl knows can be encapsulated in one word: Seed. It is the isolated community that she was born into. It is the land that she sows and reaps. It is the center of her family and everything that means home. And it is all kept under the watchful eye of Papa S.
At fifteen years old, Pearl is finally old enough to be chosen as Papa S.’s companion. She feels excitement . . . and surprising trepidation that she cannot explain. The arrival of a new family into the Seed community, particularly the teenage son, Ellis, only complicates the life and lifestyle that Pearl has depended upon as safe and constant. Ellis is compelling, charming, and worldly, and he seems to have a lot of answers to questions Pearl has never thought to ask. But as Pearl digs to the roots of the truth, only she can decide what she will allow to come to the surface.
Lisa Heathfield’s suspenseful, scintillating debut features a compelling voice that combines blithe naivete, keen observation, and sincere emotion.
MY THOUGHTS
I finished this book a few nights ago, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. It's a haunting and powerful look at faith and what it can do to people.

The characters in 'seed' were overall dynamic and enjoyable. The ones who were supposed to be likable were likable, and the ones that weren't absolutely made my skin crawl. Pearl had the perfect mix of courage and naivite, and although she was sometimes extremely frustrating it made sense with how she had been raised. I thought her thought processes and reactions were realistic for somebody in her situation and I really enjoyed hearing the story from her voice. My only issues with the characters in this book were that I got some of the characters- particularly the women- mixed up and found it a little bit hard to differentiate in my head. I also wanted to know more about Papa S as he was a very intriguing (and horrible) character.

Lisa Heathfield's writing was beautiful and poetic; the prose flowed really well. I felt she built the atmosphere at seed very effectively and I definitely felt the tension grow as the book went on. I liked that the story was dark and chilling and I think her writing really added to the creepy-ness of the book. In addition, Lisa perfectly captured the emotions of the characters which made the book so much more powerful. Overall I was really impressed with the writing style and I'd love to read more from this author.

Some parts of the book were a little bit slow- especially near the start- however as the book went on the pace really picked up and by half way through I couldn't stop reading. There were a few things that happened that really got my heart racing (mostly at the end, but I'll talk about that in a minute) but you have to be prepared for some points to drag out a little bit.

Unfortunately I wasn't a massive fan of the romance in this book. I don't normally say this, but I actually wish it had been a bigger part of the story! I really liked the potential between the two main characters and I just wish it would have had more time to grow.

I really liked how 'seed' explored the topic of faith and religion, and how it can totally brainwash people. (I'm not saying all faith is destructive and bad, I'm really not. Right now I'm talking about more 'extreme' cult-like religious groups). For some reason cults in general fascinate me, which is actually the reason I requested this on netgalley in the first place. It's a really interesting concept to read about and I think Lisa Heathfield handled it really well.

I can't say too much about the ending without spoiling it (trust me, you don't want to be spoiled), but I will say that it is shocking and unexpectedly heartbreaking. I cried. A lot. I did think that maybe it was too brutal to fit the tone of the rest of the book but I've decided that it drove down the point the author was trying to make, and it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

IN CONCLUSION
'Seed' was haunting and powerful, with beautiful writing and an ending I never saw coming. I highly recommend it!

VALENTINES SPECIAL: MY FAVORITE ROMANTIC BOOKS

Hi guys!
you probably know that Valentines day is this Saturday (do you have a date? I have my books!), and to celebrate I wanted to do a few special romantic posts. With red writing! I'm just that creative.

There's going to be one Valentines themed post a day up until the fourteenth, starting today with my favorite ROMANTIC BOOKS!

Now, these aren't all typical cutesy contemporary romances. I just don't read a lot of those. The only rule these books had to meet was having strong romantic themes in them, and at least one adorable couple. They had to make me squeal, or cry, or just melt on the inside. Let's get started!

TOP 5 WEDNESDAY: BOOKS SET IN MY COUNTRY

Hello guys! Wednesday has come again (does anybody else feel like they're writing a top five Wednesday post every five minutes?), and this weeks topic is the favorite books set in your country/area!

I live in England, by the way. Unfortunately I haven't actually read many books set in this lovely country so this was kind of hard. If anybody has any good recommendations on books set in England make sure to let me know about it, I really want to read more!

#PROJECTTBR READ-A-THON TBR

Hi guys!
Today I'll be telling you about my TBR for the #PROJECTTBR read-a-thon that's happening next week.

This is the first read-a-thon I've ever taken part in, and I'm probably going to fail. I'm just not good with pressure. Luckily it's in my break from school so I should have a lot of time.

This read-a-thon is being organised by the lovely benjaminoftomes, to watch the video where he explains everything CLICK HERE!

Anyway, let's just get into the books!

TBR JAR CHALLENGE: FEBRUARY

In December I decided I was going to do the TBR jar challenge, created by Katytastic (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's her video where she explains everything X

In January, I completely forgot about it. My glasses case full of slips stayed unopened on my shelf. Oops.

Now, in February, I am reviving my challenge. Ladies and gentlemen, the glasses case has been opened. Lets just hope I remember about it next month.

The challenge I picked out for February was READ A BOOK WITH 500+ PAGES. I've decided on 'Soulmates' by Holly Bourne, which has a grand total of 525 pages. I wanted to read it soon anyway and now I have the perfect excuse to put it on the top of my TBR.
